Value Drill

For this I took a little break from my matte fantasy paintings. "Let's get down to Earth", I thought. It's 95% real, the only thing that's fantasy is the trees in the background.
While making this painting I started to think about the importance of finding the right balance between the detailisation and the areas of rough indication. I spent a lot of time playing with atmosphere perspective and value separation, but I decided to skip most of the time-consuming detailing. Hopefully it looks somewhat believable, but the most important thing is learning.
